A special Press Conference was held at 1000 Hrs on 26/09/2025 at Conference Hall, 9th Floor, Bharat Sanchar Bhavan, Janpath, New Delhi which was addressed by Honourable Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Communications, Government of India. Respected MoC briefed Press and media about the collective efforts by BSNL, DoT, C-DoT and Tejas to deploy Swadeshi 4G Mobile Network.
He shared that BSNL today aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and technological self-reliance by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji, announced the launch of its indigenous 4G technology network.
Hon’ble Minister of Communications & Development of North Eastern Region, announced that more than 97,500 Mobile 4G Towers will be commissioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister tomorrow, on 27th September 2025, at Jharsuguda, Odisha wherein more than 92,600 mobile sites installed by BSNL, are of Swadeshi 4G technology which are upgradable to 5G.
It is fully indigenous 4G technology stack featuring a Radio Access Network (RAN) developed by Tejas Network, a core network by C-DOT, and integrated by TCS.
About 4,700 mobile 4G Towers have been installed by both RJIL and BAL and 14,180 mobile 4G Towers under saturation project have been funded by DBN (Digital Bharat Nidhi).
These towers cover 26,700 unconnected villages in remote, border, and left-wing extremism-affected areas and will be strategic enabler for Digital India, serving over 2 million new subscribers and powering a range of e-Governance services, digital payments, online education, telemedicine, and citizen-centric applications on a click of a button.
Honourable Minister of Communications added that BSNL in its Silver Jubilee Year has taken a historic step in ushering India into the era of self-reliant telecom infrastructure and making India the 5th country in the world to achieve this and emphasized that this milestone is not just a technological upgrade but a reaffirmation of India’s capability to design, develop, and deploy advanced telecom networks indigenously.
Dr Neeraj Mittal, Secretary Telecom, DoT added that it is imperative to develop indigenous capabilities to achieve self-reliance. 4G technology stack developed by Indian companies will position India in dynamically shifting industry as Product-offerings country.
Shri A. Robert J Ravi, CMD, BSNL, remarked, that BSNL’s Silver Jubilee year has given us the opportunity to lead the country into the indigenous 4G era. The Swadeshi 4G launch reinforces India’s telecom self-reliance, enabling seamless connectivity and seamless e-Governance services nationwide.
