Discussions and decisions taken in GTI Meeting held on 02/02/2026

In continuation to discussions and decisions taken in GTI Meeting held on 02/02/2026, AGM Est-I BSNL CO writes to all Circle Heads regarding guidelines for annual renewal of the Group Term Insurance for BSNL Executives and Employees due for renewal on 01/03/2026 Copy<<<>>

There is no change in the terms and conditions in respect of existing Members and some changes are made for new entrants.

The rates of premium are for one year i.e. from 01/03/2026 to 28/02/2027.

The online window for the exercising option for renewal of GTI in the ERP-ESS portal will be open for five days from 09/02/2026 to 13/02/2026.

The window for options by new entrants as well as opting out from the GTI scheme, who desire to withdraw their option will be available for three days from 14/02/2026 to 16/02/2026. Since the window will be available only for a limited period for exercising any of GTI Options, all have to take extra care in exercising the option in given time.

The premium of the existing members who entered the policy before attaining the age of 50 years and choose to continue the policy, will be the same as applicable for below 50 years age group.

Any executive employee who entered the policy after attaining the age of 50 years, he/she can switch between the sum assured of Rs. 20 lakhs and Rs. 50 lakhs, by paying the applicable premium.

Though it was discussed in the meeting not to ask for options for continuation or renewal of GTI for existing members, the same could not be made effective due to time constraint and also due to administrative reasons.

This premium amount will be deducted from Salary of February 2926

As there will not be auto renewal of the GTI scheme, all existing members of GTI will have to compulsorily exercise their option to avail the GTI scheme through ERP-ESS Portal during the online window available only from 09/02/2026 to 13/02/2026.

In case the employee, including the existing members, does not exercise any option, he/she will be considered to have not opted for the GTI scheme and hence everyone has to exercise the option for renewal of GTI or as a new entrant.

The new entrant of this GTI Scheme should not be absent from work on the ground of health on the Renewal Date i.e. 01/03/2026 and if so, their option for GTI Scheme will not be considered. This condition is applicable only for new entrants and not for members who are already enrolled and opting for renewal.

Though we have demanded for reducing GTI premium for all executives, by justifying less claims from executives in this GTI Scheme, the same was not agreed by LIC stating that they are referring quotes as a whole group of BSNL family and not as part. It was further added that if the GTI premium is to be reduced for executives, then it will be enhanced for Non-Executives due to the high claim ratio.

But on our stressing for high charges for Executives with age 50 and above, LIC has agreed to reduce rates by 10% and accordingly premium for this age group has been reduced by 10 % as compared to premium of the last year.

For Non- Executives, it has been agreed to reduce the Premium rates and also making option available for Rs 50 Lakh GTI Claim conditionally that 75% of the total Non-Executives opts for GTI scheme. Accordingly, if required window will be opened for giving options for enhanced GTI Policy Amount from present Rs 20 to Rs 50 Lakhs as strongly demanded by GSs of Unions in the said meeting.

Apart from this we have discussed for need of mandatory GTI of minimum Rs 10 Lakhs with full or part contribution by the management as it was responded by the Committee members positively, but it will take some time more to take final decision on it.

Apart from this, we have raised the issue of our pending demand for creation of the Benevolent fund  for all executives and it has been responded positively and a meeting is scheduled at 1600 Hrs today i.e. 10/02/2026.  Copy<<<>>

It has been seen that for financial reasons , families do not opt for GTI and in case of any unfortunate incident, family of the concerned employees are sufferers. Hence, one has to take positive decision in opting in or by renewal of GTI scheme for financial support of family after he/she and not as any investment proposal.

SNEA appeals to all Executives and Non-Executives in BSNL, to have proper analysis of family requirements and make a decision to opt for this GTI Scheme or at least have some individual Term Insurance for safeguarding your family after you.
