As per notice issued by DGM Admn BSNL CO, a meeting for renewal of Group Term Insurance (GTI) was held on 29/01/2026 at First Floor Committee Hall at Bharat Sanchar Bhavan, New Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Shri. S.P. Singh, PGM Admn/Estt BSNL CO and was attended by Shri. Rajeev Kumar Kaushik, PGM Pers, Shri Rajeev Singh, PGM CA BSNL CO and Shri Rajeev Sharma, DGM Admn BSNL CO.
This was attended by leaders of Recognized Majority Association SNEA, Support Association and Recognized Unions BSNLEU and NFTE.
From the Recognized Majority Association SNEA, this meeting was attended by Shri Balvant Singh Sharma, VP SNEA and Shri. M. S. Adasul, GS SNEA.
The details of discussions are as follows.
- DGM Admn started the meeting with welcome to all and shared that this year M/S LIC has agreed for renewal of GTI at the same rates of last year for executives and due to higher claim ratio, the same is increased for Non-Executives. He shared the copy of proposal Annual renewal of Group Term Insurance for BSNL employees as per Master Policies.Copy<<<>>
- The leaders of unions demanded enhancement of the claim amount for Non-Executives from Rs 20 Lakhs to Rs 50 Lakhs and the leaders from associations demanded enhancement of the sum assured from Rs 50 Lakhs to Rs. 1 crore. It was also demanded by Unions to allow willing Non-Executives to opt for higher GTI Policy available for Executives. It was agreed by all the committee members and it was assured to take up with M/S LIC and if not agreed for this year, the efforts will be made to include in the next policy year.
- It has been decided that this time Options will be issued only for Opting out or new options and anybody who does no withdraw the existing options for GTI, will automatically continue to opt for the GTI term as he/she has opted earlier.
- We also discussed the contribution by BSNL for GTI subscription, but as usual it was denied by the management.
- We requested for some small amount GTI i.e. Rs 10 Lakhs for each and every executive and employee with contribution by BSNL Management and it was assured that the same will be discussed with higher management.
- We explained that the GTI amount for executives with age 50 and above is too high as compared to below age of 50 years and requested for reducing the rates for GTI for executives at age of 50 and above. It was assured to discuss this issue with M/S LIC and take final call accordingly.
- All leaders demanded to pass benefits of reduced GST for Term Insurance but it was replied that GST reduced for individual Term Insurance and not for Group Term Insurance, but matter BSNL Executives and Employees.
- The meeting concluded with a decision that the concern raised by Unions and Associations will be discussed with LIC and a final call will be taken on these suggestions.
- The next meeting is fixed at 1130 Hrs at the same venue in presence of LIC Representatives to take final call on all these issues.
Accordingly, it has been principally decided to go ahead with renewal of GTI for Executives and Employees and accordingly the subscriptions will be deducted from salary of February 2026 by confirming options through ERP/ESS online window to be opened in this week itself.
